Miguel Viana has been working with clay and ceramics for over ten years. What started as a simple curiosity has become a natural extension of his artistic expression.
He draws inspiration from Portuguese legends and traditions. His totems and figurines combine ancestral images and influences from his travels around the world.
His sculptures are constructed from layered stories. Each module has a distinct color, texture, and memory, representing the different cycles of life—like voices that overlap without canceling each other out.
The enamel brings light to what has been experienced; the unglazed surfaces preserve the silence of what has remained unexpressed; the matte areas evoke moments of pause and reflection. The material thus becomes a temporal and emotional language.
The verticality of the works establishes a symbolic axis between Earth and sky, generating a strong, almost protective presence.
Each piece thus reflects a dialogue between material and memory. Miguel learned traditional techniques from a family of Portuguese potters, guardians of a craft passed down from generation to generation.
