Overview

Catalina Ruiz is a Buenos Aires-based artist.

Her work reinterprets nature to create new universes on canvas and through large-scale wall murals. She explores the space between the recognisable and the abstract, building and dismantling organic forms through colour, gesture, texture, and material.

Her passion for art began in childhood. Her mother is an artist, and she grew up painting at home. Although she later studied Foreign Affairs at Universidad del Salvador, she continued developing her artistic practice through workshops in Buenos Aires and courses in London and Barcelona.

She believes this combination of experiences shapes the way she sees and makes art today. Studying Foreign Affairs gave her an integral vision of the world and taught her to approach things from different perspectives—something that naturally became part of her creative process.

Inspired by nature and the Impressionists, she is interested in pushing an image between representation and abstraction, allowing familiar forms to transform into something new. For her, painting is a constant process of building and unbuilding, where intuition and experimentation open up infinite possibilities.
