Overview

The exhibition Through Matter and Shape at the Galerie Duret brings together the works of three major contemporary sculptors: David Gerstein, Laurence Perratzi, and Miguel Viana. Through distinct artistic approaches, the artists explore how matter and form can convey movement, emotion, and the perception of space.

David Gerstein’s vibrant and colorful works infuse the exhibition with a sense of urban energy and poetic vitality, capturing everyday scenes through dynamic layers and expressive silhouettes. Laurence Perratzi, meanwhile, develops a more organic and introspective body of work, where textures and flowing lines seem to reveal the sensitive memory of the material itself. In dialogue with these approaches, Miguel Viana’s sculptures investigate balance, tension, and the purity of form through a language that is both minimalist and architectural.

By bringing together these three complementary artistic universes, Through Matter and Shape offers a reflection on contemporary sculpture as both a sensory and spatial experience. The exhibition invites visitors to move between density and lightness, color and restraint, abstraction and figuration, revealing sculpture’s unique ability to transform our perception of space and the act of looking itself.
